(DAYTON, OH)… In recognition of a historic Inauguration Day, the Greater Dayton RTA will celebrate Black History Month through its “Black Women In History” campaign. This campaign will begin on Feb. 1 and run through the entire month of February.
As the country witnessed the inauguration of its 1st African American & Asian American Vice President, RTA elected to honor the achievements of several Black women who have made significant contributions to the history of the United States. Iconic figures such as Shirley Chisolm, the first Black woman voted into the U.S. Congress, and Condoleezza Rice, the first Black woman to serve as U.S. Secretary of State, along with facts about Black women will be displayed as interior cards throughout RTA's fixed-route bus fleet for customers to observe during their essential trips. This special tribute was inspired by civil rights leader Rosa Parks and new Vice President Kamala Harris. In addition, a seat has been reserved on every bus using a special Rosa Parks placard to acknowledge her role in making a seat available for everyone.
Each week, the agency will share profiles and facts from the campaign on its Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages.
